Nissan Launches Personalization Program for Juke Crossover in Europe

While in the U.S., infotainment systems with all sorts of apps are all the rage, European new car buyers seem to want more extreme personalization options from manufactures.

This could be because they don’t really fancy having the exact same car as their next-door neighbor or the one next to the company parking lot.

Watch a DIY Nissan Juke R from Russia Hit the 1/4 Mile in 10.48"

The original Nissan Juke R with a twin-turbocharged V6 heart transplant from last year's GT-R that beats to the tune of 545-horses is no doubt one of the craziest and fastest crossovers ever to be offered for sale by any car manufacturer.

It's also one of the most expensive as it carries a price tag of €500,000 or close to US$650,000 at today's exchange rates.

But it isn't alone when it comes to insanely powerful Jukes as one Russian owner has created his own vision of the Juke R fitted with an unspecified engine pushing out 750-horses.

Nissan Builds First €500,000 Juke R with 545HP for Client, Makes Some Minor Changes to the Design

The wildest crossover ever to make the transition from concept to production, the new limited run Nissan Juke R that utilizes a modified version of the GT-R's platform and twin-turbo engine, is ready to be placed into the hands of a select few customers.

Nissan announced today that the first Juke-R road car has been built and tested and is now on its way be delivered to its new owner, adding that production of car No002 is "well underway".

The Japanese carmaker said that the exact price of the Juke R's depend on the precise specification requested by each buyer, but noted that it starts from a whopping €500,000 (about US$652,500) a pop, or more than five times the cost of a GT-R in Europe (6.5 times in the U.S.).

The street-legal, production version of the Juke R is more powerful than the 485bhp concept, as Nissan used the latest GT-R's 545bhp twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter engine that allows for an estimated 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 275km/h (171mph).

Le Scoop: New Renault Captur Small Crossover Based on the Nissan Juke

The success of Nissan's crossover models such as the Juke and the Qashqai in Europe has not gone unnoticed by its partner Renault, which is now preparing to duplicate the Japanese brand's recipe staring with a junior CUV.

At the 2011 Geneva Salon, Renault hinted at its intentions to enter the small crossover segment with the fancy Captur Concept. Later on, the French automaker confirmed the development of a production model loosely inspired by the study to replace the Modus and Grand Modus small minivans in its European lineup.

C&D Pits Nissan Juke-R Against Porsche 911 GT2 RS

When it comes to extreme production cars, the limited run Nissan Juke-R takes the cake, and rightfully so since the Japanese automaker essentially dropped the body of its small crossover over the (shortened) chassis and powertrain of the supercar-slaying GT-R sports car.

In prototype form, the Juke-R uses the MY10 GT-R's 485hp V6, but the actual production model, which will carry a base price of $590,000 (about €473,000), will get the even more powerful 545hp turbocharged engine from the improved MY12 (2013MY in North America) GT-R.

New Nissan Juke Nismo with Tuned-Up 1.6-Liter Turbo Engine Debuts at Le Mans

It might not be as near as special or powerful as the limited run Juke R, but Nissan believes that most buyers looking for something sportier than the regular Juke will be content with the new Nismo-branded model that makes its world premiere in production guise at this week's 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.

First seen as a concept model at last year's Tokyo Motor Show, the new Juke Nismo will go on sale in Europe in early 2013, with Japan and the U.S. to follow at a later date.

The Nismo badge brings a host of enhancements to the Juke starting with a tuned-up version of its 1.6-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol engine.

Nissan has not yet disclosed performance figures, but for the record, in regular trim, the 1.6-liter turbocharged unit delivers 188hp (190PS) and 240Nm (177 lb-ft) of peak torque.

Nissan Juke R can be Fun on the Ice as Well

While Nissan does not need any help selling the small production run of its 545-horsepower and 160mph (257km/h) Juke R special, the Japanese automaker is constantly looking for a reason to create additional buzz around the high-performance crossover with the hope that some of it will rub off on the regular model.

Following a string of videos from Dubai that entailed a supercar grudge match, Nissan PlayStation GT Academy winner Lucas Ordoňez took the Juke R to trial it at the snow-capped mountains of Norway and the Losna Isbane Ice Track.
