New Acura App Lets You Put Some Color to NSX Pre-Production Concept

We’ve seen it in the flesh at motor shows; we've seen it in virtual form on GT5; we've seen it with Honda badges; we've seen it in a Super Bowl commercial; we've seen it in a red shade, and we've even seen it as a roadster in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Yes, we're talking about the Acura NSX pre-production concept and if you haven't figured it out already, we're going to be "seeing" a lot more of the Japanese brand's hybrid sports car since it won't be ready for sale before 2014.

2014 Acura MDX Prototype gets Teased Before Detroit Motor Show Debut

What you see here is an official teaser rendering of the 2014 Acura MDX Prototype that will be unwrapped for the first time during the press days of the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), held in Detroit in mid-January.

As is usually the case, Acura has released very little information regarding the concept study, but if you insist, here's what Honda's luxury arm said:

Acura's Supercharged ILX Street Build Concept and ILX Endurance Racer

Making their world premiere today at the 2012 SEMA Show are two new Acura ILX compact sedan builds, one for the street and the other for the racetrack, marking the return of the Japanese brand to the Las Vegas aftermarket show after a six-year hiatus.

The 2013 ILX "Street Build" project car was made to demonstrate the customization possibilities for enthusiasts.

This is NOT the Production Version of the 2015 Acura NSX, this is the Concept…

Earlier today, a set of monochromatic renderings of the Acura / Honda NSX were posted on China's Sohu website and were quickly picked up by other sites such as Carnewschina and Jalopnik, with all claiming more or less that these pictures are of the 2015 production model and that they were leaked "from China’s patent office".

Well, we can assure you that this is not the case - period. To begin with, the pictures were originally released on the European patent agency on February 22, 2012, a little over a month after the concept was displayed at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.

Acura's Red NSX Concept Filmed Around the Turntable at the Beijing Show

After showing you the first photos of Acura's NSX concept car in a more passionate red shade, we now have a short walk around video clip of the car from the brand's Beijing Auto Show stand.

China along with the U.S. and Canada will be amongst those few markets around the globe that will get the production NSX with Acura's badges on the bonnet, since the hybrid sports car will be offered as a Honda in most other regions when it goes on sale in 2015.

Head over the break to watch the video.

Acura Shows NSX Concept in a New Red Shade at the Auto China 2012

Silver is a color preferred by many car designers when it comes to presenting their work at motor shows as the neutral shade allows viewers to digest all the lines and details of any given model.

However, having already exhibited the new NSX Concept in this color at both its world premiere at the Detroit Motor Show in January and its European debut (with Honda badges) at the Geneva Salon in March, Acura decided to surprise visitors at the Auto China 2012 in Beijing by displaying the hybrid sports car in a more passionate red finish.

Tony Stark Drives Acura NSX Roadster to The Avengers Red Carpet Premiere [Photos + Videos]

The world premiere of Marvel's big-budget The Avengers film at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood on Wednesday gave us the chance to see Acura's NSX Roadster in real life as actor Robert Downey Jr., aka Tony Stark, drove the one-off concept model on the red carpet.

As noted in one of our previous articles, while the custom-made roadster's exterior looks closely follow the lines of the NSX Concept displayed at the Detroit Motor Show this past January, it's a whole different story under the skin as the car utilizes the platform as well as the interior of a first generation NSX.

The two-seater model isn’t the only Acura model to star in the film as specially converted MDX crossovers and TL sedans were used in the movie by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

Being an official sponsor of the film, in addition to Downey's arrival in the roadster, The Avengers stars Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) also arrived to the theater in a fleet of Acura models.

Acura Roadster Concept Featured in The Avengers Movie is Built on the First-Generation NSX

If it wasn't for a new batch of photos posted by Edmunds, we would have probably never guessed that the unnamed Acura roadster model featured in the upcoming film 'The Avengers' is actually built around the first generation of Acura's (Honda for the rest of the world) much lauded NSX coupe.

Even though the exterior styling is very similar to the NSX Concept we saw in Detroit earlier this year, if you take a look at the extensive gallery, you'll see that Tony Stark's ride features the same exact interior and mid mounted V6 powerplant as the original NSX.

Acura Shows Tony Stark's NSX Roadster, MDX S.H.I.E.L.D., and RDX 'The Avengers' Commercial

Honda's premium brand, Acura, is using every opportunity to advertise the sponsorship and the appearance of its production and concept cars in the upcoming blockbuster film "The Avengers", due in theaters on May 4, 2012.

At the New York Auto Show, Acura displayed its S.H.I.E.L.D. edition MDX finished in a stealthy matte black paint and fitted with all sorts of goods such as the large front bull bar, protective black cladding all around and special wheels.

Furthermore, the company released the first official photo of a prototype Acura convertible sports car that was created specifically for the film, and which we first saw last September being driven by Tony Stark (aka Robert Downey Jr) while filming The Avengers at Central Park.

"Before we unveiled the NSX Concept in Detroit, a number of you speculated that the car spotted right here in Central Park in the company of Iron Man Tony Stark was actually the new NSX," said Acura Vice President Mike Accavitti, at the company’s New York Auto Show press conference.

2013 Acura RLX Concept Sedan Sports New V6 Hybrid System with 370HP and 30mpg Combined

At the 2012 New York Auto Show, Acura revealed the new RLX, which may carry a concept moniker, but we all know that it's a thinly disguised version of the production model slated for launch in North America at the beginning of 2013.

The RLX will replace the RL as Acura's flagship model in a segment that the company has constantly failed to deliver.

The Japanese brand's full-size sedan has approximately the same length as the current RL, but comes with a two-inch longer wheelbase and two-inch shorter front overhang, while both the track and vehicle width increase by around two inches.

The styling builds on Acura's so-called 'Keen Edge' design motif, as seen on the smaller ILX. The concept's stance is accentuated by a set of 20-inch forged aluminum wheels shod in 255/35 R20 high-performance tires, which is probably one of the few elements on the concept that won't make it into production.

First Official Picture of New Acura RLX Flagship Sedan Concept

Acura told us that the big reveal of its flagship sedan concept would take place at the New York International Auto Show at 1:50 PM (EST), but the first official image of the car we will come to know as the RLX has already hit the interwebs, courtesy of the VWvortex forum members.

We only have a single image in our hands right now, but from what we can tell, like many other recent Honda and Acura concepts such as the Detroit Show Accord Coupe, the RLX is virtually production ready.

The RLX, which will replace the aging RL in Acura's lineup, seems to borrow its design DNA from the smaller ILX sedan, albeit with the wheel arch kink flipped the other way around.

Acura Officially Confirms Debut of New Flagship Sedan in New York, Says it will be a Concept

Just yesterday, we learned that Acura's Vice President Jeff Conrad told reporters during a media event that the current RL's (shown in the above photo) replacement will be called the RLX, as the company moves from a two-letter to a three-letter naming system for its entire range.

Now, Acura has come out with an official statement announcing the world premiere of the RL's successor (which it doesn't name) at the New York International Auto Show.

"Employing an array of new Acura technologies, including the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system, the concept vehicle will deliver an entirely new level of performance, sophistication and comfort," said Acura.
